The World's Favorite Game: New Soccer Doc Plays Pick-Up Around the Globe

The Soccer Project from Rebekah Fergusson on Vimeo.

As qualifiers continue for the world's best players to reach the big dance in South Africa next year, a new documentary takes a look at the way the game is embraced, loved and enjoyed in various parts of the globe.
The Soccer Project started when two former U.S. college stars, Luke Boughen and Gwendolyn Oxenham, ditched their Stateside lives to see how everyday people enjoy their favorite sport around the world. Oh, and they filmed their adventures to make a documentary called Footplay.
By the looks of the trailer, these first-time filmmakers have the brass ones (pick-up in Bolivian prison?!) to really make this an intriguing and entertaining study of futbol's grassroots.
Side note: Why the sweet hell didn't Franklin Foer think to film his research for How Soccer Explains The World?

MLS Presents: How To Piss Off 50,000 Montrealers

Y'know, the ones who packed Olympic Stadium for the Impact's 2-0 win over Mexico's Santos Laguna in the quarter-final first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League?

If being denied entry to the MLS party was a brown paper bag of poop on Montreal's porch, giving Vancouver the nod was the match that lit it on fire.

Mourinho Not Quite Special Enough... This Time

The lead up to the Manchester United/Inter Milan Champions League round of 16 clash was, to be honest, a bit much. Sure, you've got two of the most storied clubs in football meeting in the highest profile tournament in the world, but wasn't there a tad too much focus on managers Sir Alex Ferguson vs. Jose Mourinho instead of the squads themselves? And after all the hype, the only real drama related to yesterday's Man. U's 2-0 win was the fact Mourinho's now been accused of punching a Red Devil supporter in the face after the match. Now that's pretty special.

Beckham's Italian Job: Finally Settled. Maybe.

After what feels like approximately 17 years of negotiations, and seemingly definite statements to the contrary, it appears that AC Milan and the LA Galaxy have settled on allowing David Beckham to remain at the Italian club until the end of the Serie A season, before returning Stateside. But! There are reports that the finer details have not been ironed out just yet, but should be by MondaaaaZZZzzzzzz... WHEN WILL THIS END? Stay in Milan. Go back to LA. Does anyone even care anymore (besides jersey vendors)?
