Pulling a Lumsden: Any Other Canadian Olympic Cross-Overs?

In light of Edmonton Eskimos running back Jesse Lumsden's win at the national bobsled championships this past weekend (in the two-man event with veteran Pierre Lueders), we started thinking about who else the Canadian Olympic Committee -- or whoever calls folks up for try-outs -- should consider giving a shout.
The concept of finding sports stars in unconventional locations is not a new one. The Jamaican bobsled team of 1988. Eddie the Eagle, the British ski jumper. We're pretty sure the Argos tried to sign Ben Johnson at some point before his eventual disgrace and Cheetah beverage spokesperson duties. Oh, and then there was that Kevin Bacon movie. So, yeah, very common. Now, who else can we convince to take up an Olympic dream in a completely unrelated sport for our seething need of shiny medals?

Canadian athletes serve notice

Canada owned the podium over the past four days in venues from B.C. to Bulgaria, France and Norway, raising expectations for next year's Winter Olympics.

By the time the weekend finished, Canadians had collected 28 medals, more than half of them gold.

Can we fast forward a year?

The Own the Podium initiative developed by the Canadian Olympic Committee and its partners has targeted the No. 1 overall medal position for Canada at the Vancouver Games.
